The TU's 20th birthday celebration dinner was held on Wednesday 8 November in the Grand Ballroom of the Greek Club in Brisbane.

Our very special guest for the evening was the Secretary-General of the International Union of Tenants, Mr Magnus Hammar. Magnus travelled from Sweden to help us celebrate our birthday and along the way has visited with Tenants' Unions in other states. He presented an overview of tenancy situations in different countries and how some major changes are impacting on elderley and long term tenants in former socialist states.

The night was a great success with many workers, friends, members and supporters from throughout the years contributing to the historical feel of the evening. Our MC, Helen Razer, added her own inimitable touch to the evening in overseeing the programme. Among other journalistic achievements, Helen writes a column for the Big Issue and meeting Helen and obtaining her autograph was a particular highlight for our Big Issue supplier Ted Jones. Ted is also one of TU's dedicated members who attended on the night.

Also entertaining our guests was The Plate Guy, juggler extraordinaire doing his thing with plates, swords, knives and glasses of water.


Among the past Co-ordinators and Steering Committee members were previous workers, families and funding body representatives enjoying a great meal and comradeship for the evening.
