Have you ever wanted to change how Queensland tenancy laws work?

Here is your chance!

The Residential Tenancies Act is under review.

Public submissions will be called for soon!

The Queensland government is about to call for public submissions on a Policy Options Paper about the review of the Residential Tenancies Act.

The release of this Paper will be the last formal opportunity to comment to government about proposed changes to tenancy law before decisions about how to amend the Residential Tenancies Act are made by Cabinet later in the year. It is important for government to hear the views of as many tenants and tenant advocates as possible.

The format of the Policy Options Paper will be to identify and overview each topic, consider the options for reform and state the government's preferred position.

The Paper is likely to be released around the end of April, although its exact release date is not yet known.

If you would like to find out when the Paper is released, check the Residential Tenancies Authority's website http://www.rta.qld.gov.au/ or our own http://www.tuq.org.au/ as information will be placed there after its release.

If you do not have access to the internet, you can call our office (07-3257 1411) to register your interest. We can take your name and address and arrange for the Residential Tenancies Authority to send you a copy of the paper when it's released.

If you want to have your say, you can comment on a single issue, a range of issues or all the issues considered in the paper. You may find that a topic of interest to you has been overlooked and you can make a submission on that as well. Submissions can short or long, in dot point or letter form, or more formally set out - however it suits you.

The more tenants who make submissions the more effective we will be in protecting tenants' rights. This opportunity will not come again for many years!

Submissions will be due 9 weeks after the Paper's release. If you would like any information on the Tenants' Union’s position on issues please contact us.
