One of the primary aims of the Tenants' Union is to educate tenants and the broader community about tenancy law and tenants' rights.
The Tenants' Union statewide community education program includes:
- Provides tenancy information publications for tenants
- Delivers tenancy information sessions for tenants and community groups
- Conducts information stalls and participates at community events
- Works with local communities to address the information needs of tenants.
The Tenants' Union also works directly with Tenancy Advice and Advocacy Services to develop and distribute tenancy information resources for tenants throughout Queensland.
The Tenants' Union particularly seeks to address issues affecting low-income tenants and to improve access to tenancy information services for tenants who are most disadvantaged in the private rental market.
In recent years the Tenants' Union has conducted research projects and developed specific information resources to improve access to tenancy services for indigenous tenants, tenants from non-English speaking backgrounds and residents in boarding house accommodation.
