Research and Tenancy Issues Policy Development
The Tenants' Union monitors the performance and effects of tenancy laws through daily contact with tenants and tenant advice services. Analysing specific aspects of tenancy legislation and researching tenancy law policy issues is an ongoing part of the Tenants' Union's law reform activities.
From time to time the Tenants' Union also conducts projects to research specific tenancy issues that affect tenants in Queensland. Recently the Tenants' Union has completed a major research project monitoring the impact of new Residential Services legislation on residents in boarding houses and hostels. The Tenants' Union has also conducted research into tenancy database issues for tenants and privacy legislation.
Research is fundamental to the operations of the Tenants' Union and informs both the Union's law reform and housing policy work and the provision of quality legal advice and advocacy services to tenants and tenant advocates.
The Tenants' Union undertakes research and develops campaigns to improve conditions for Queensland tenants through changes to tenancy laws and government housing policies.
