Information for Students

"Renting a Place - Information for Students" provides an overview of housing options and tenancy information for students and young people renting in Queensland.

If you are a student on a low income, or a young person renting for the first time, it can be difficult to find and maintain rental accommodation. It can be even harder to know how to solve problems and how to enforce your rights.

This information brochure aims to assist young people and students who are renting accommodation covered by the Residential Tenancies Act. More detailed information about the Residential Tenancies Act can also be found in our Fast Facts on Tenancy.

If you rent a room in a private boarding house or student hostel your rights are covered under a different Act, called the Residential Services (Accommodation) Act. For more information about this Act see the Residents' Rights Kit. Information about the Residential Services Accommodation Act is also available on the RTA website.
